If you are doing Google Adwords you will know that its very important to improve you CTR. Google will reward you if your CTR is high. The reward will be for you to pay less for a click and there for give you a higher position. And we all know that a higher position will leads to more clicks. So yes you will probably pay the same, but will more clicks to your website.

Read my article Good Advice Before You Start Doing Google Adwords about how you improve your CTR. Delete the bad keywords, try new keywords and always split test your ads. This is pretty much standard today. And did you read about automated rules article.

But honnestly – how many of you have been working with time of day and days of week? Well I admit it… I haven’t done much until lately. But it really works and you gotta check it out.

Now google AdWords gives you the possibility to show your ads at particular times of the day or 24 hours a day. So you will have to check your CTR and your conversion rates. Maybe if your ads are showing at night – people are clicking on your ads. Or maybe they will never click on your ads and therefor your CTR will become low. But you can see that you almost never sell anything between 11 pm and 7 am. So in fact its a waste of money. And maybe your overall CTR will get down because your CTR in the evening and night is low. The CTR can varies a lot doing the day.

So you will have to determined which of the hours your ads produce the worst CTRs, and then you can choose not to show your ads at these times.

The result is that your overall CTR of your campaign will get higher – Google Adwords will reward you and give you a higher position for the same click price – and you will get more clicks. Pretty simple right?

This is what you will have to do
1) choose the campaign you wanna optimize
2) Select the dimension tab
3) Click the view submenu and selct hour of day

Now you can see what times of the day your ad group i sunder perforning. Now you have to exclude your ads from showing when your CTR is low. Now go to advance settings – ad scheduling. And now your a done.

Best of luck to you all. Remember to add me to your Google+ circle if you liked this articel (also if you didn’t liked it lol).

If I can promise you that you can save a lot of time and you will get hight CTR in your Google Adwords – what would you say?

When you are running an Adword campaign you are problerly checking your keywords at least every week (maybe every day if you are curious as me), deleting the inefficiency keywords, – the bids to get on the first page. There can be a lot of work with Google Adwords.

But did you know you can use automated rules? You have had the possibilites for around 1 year now I think. So let me show you what you can do with it.

Google Adwords automated rules started testing around December of 2010. And in February of 2011 it became available on all accounts. The feature really is that it let the user do some frequently repeated tasks without manual adjustment. You can do some advance rules, such as excluding specific keywords, apply rules to multiple campaigns (I love that).

So how can it give you a higher CTR then you can do manual? I tell you why. Its really is an amazing tool. And you can run 24/7 /365 without you using a lot of time and energy.

And at the same time give you a higher CTR because it runs all the time and now only make changes when you have time to make them – right?

Here is what you are should do

1) Go to your account and click on the Automate button. You can find the automate button on the campaigns, ad groups, ads, and keywords tabs. The menu options is different depending on your location.

2) Select the type of automate rule you would like to run. Check it out here

3) Next you will select the parameter or criteria for your rule

4) Remember to check out the preview of the criteria. This will help you to make sure you have set it up correctly.

5) Manage your rules and keep track of all your changes..

6) Remember only 10 rules can be created per user per account.

7) You are all done Easy right

Best practice…

I have been collecting some of the best practice automated rules. Ready? Don’t forget your coffee – it might get cold.

1) Setting up ads to run on specific times like weekends, promotion evens, seasons or holidays)

2) Setting up specific ads to turn on of off for promotional or other events.

3) Turn on or off ads, keywords or campaigns with very low CTR or with a high cost per conversion

4) Automatically bids that will adjust your bids until a keyword reaches a target position or match the target cost per conversion

5) Adjust your bids at different times during the day, week or year

6) Automatically incresing your budget for your effective campaigns

7) Make different budget for specific time of the week or year

8) Putting your campaings on pause when you hit a specific number of clicks

I hope this can give you some good ideas for how you can make some automated rules for your Google Adwords.

All the best to you as always.

So you wonder how Google calculates its ranking right?

Well here it is – it’s for you – and the best part is that it’s FREE.

Well I have to be honest to you – I don’t have it from Google. The percent is taken from a 72 SEOs surveyed for SEO moz’s biennial search ranking factors. But it’s getting very close to the real thing.

So lets run through the algorithm because it’s so very important to everything we are going to do with SEO.

First of all did you see that “Link Popularity of the specific page” and “Anchor Text of External Links to the Page” together makes up for around 42 percent of the ranking. Yes you read it right. That’s why link building is so important.

That’s why all the SEO people keep running around shouting about getting links to your page. And that’s why we will pay high attention on links and getting those backlinks. I will tell you much more about what to do later on.

How Google calculates the ranking of websites

And did you also see the growing importance of social media. The links coming from social media are very important for the ranking. Here its over 5 percent. And that is also links. So over half of the ranking on Google is about links

On page keywords usages

Another interesting thing is the onpage keywords usages are only 15 percent of the ranking. So no matter how much effort you are doing to write your keywords into the text, make the picture tag making extra pages with the keyword – it only counts for 15 percent.

Of course 15 percent is a lot too – and if your keywords is not on the page you will have a problem. So we still have to work with the on page keywords.

Traffic and CTR data

And yes – traffic is important. Websites with a lot of traffic must be more important than websites without or with less traffic.

And the CTR (click through rate) it’s important. How many times are your website shown in searches compared to how many time people are clicking on your link.

That’s why you have to work with the meta description even though its not really important in the ranking – but make people curious so they just have to click on your link.

Well.. Now its time for some coffee..

So now you gotta know something about emails. Your email must have one or two desired actions. Maybe its to click on a link to get to your website, or maybe its a retweet button.

Here in this article I am going to tell you something about

How to get the email opened

How to get your email read

How to get the desired action

So are you ready? Go and get your coffee and put your favorite music on.

Getting the email opened

I have found 2 reasons why a recipient wanna open your email.

If they know you already and they know that they will get some value using their time. Your email will be opened.

Or if your subject line is so exciting and so compelling that they just can’t help opening it to listen to what you have to say. (OMG when I am going to make a email about this article I am going to work hard on the subject)

There is no magic formula, what you are going to write in the subject, but there is a methodology that you can use to test your subject lines before sending your email:

1 make a list of all the subjects which your reader may be thinking already. It could be aobut the economy, if he or she is completely stressed, maybe worried about how he is keeping his job.. and so on
2 Now you are going to write some positive and negative subject lines about it. So you can address what’s already on your readers mind.
3 Now speak out loud the subject line. Does it work you think?

Hopefully it will strikes a emotional chord like envy, greed, lust, fear, curiosity… If your reader doesn’t even open your mail .. well you will not get any desire action from him right?

How to get it read

Now the reader has hopefully opened your mail. So now the question is …. should you make the email long or short? Maybe the whole article or just a teaser.

I have found some different examples.

Informational or How-To email. When you are writing informational or How-To related emails, I have found that you should keep it to about 500-700 words in length and include the entire article in your email.

Offer emails. If you are offering something. Like I did when wrote about the free Complete SeoCustomer Guide 2011, you should keep it short. Like a teaser. The click should lead the reader directly to a longer sales page (landingpage).

News updates. This could be a summery of what has happened on your blog or website the past week. Make sure your first text address the topic from your subject line.

How to get the desired action – Increasing Email Click Rates

Whatever you wanna tell in your email you gotta have a call to action. So let me tell use the 3 examples again.

Informational or How-To emails. Here you are going to tell your reader something helpful, maybe a tip, trick or idea, suggestion or how-to something. You would like the reader to spread the word, so remember to include social link tags in your mail (I do that too.. please spread the word). Encourage your reader to Re-tweet your email, use Like or bookmark.

Offer emails. Keep it short. Lure them to your landingpage, where you can show them more items. Don’t try to sell anything in your mail. Make them curious and sale whatever you are selling on your landingpage.

News updates. Again you wanna tell your reader to go to your website or blog and read the whole article or articles. So keep it short and make it impossible for your readers not to hit the links to your website or blog.

Remember that more and more people are now using mobil devices. So be sure your website or blog can be read on a smart-phone. If you are using WordPress for your blog you can get a free plugin for this.

Remember to add me to your Google+ circles

Ready – you have your coffee? Okay…

I have done a lot of Google AdWords and I have done all the usual stuff. A/B testing, different headlines, different text, putting the keyword in the URL… And some of that was working. (You do A/B testing by the way? If not remember always to do that). But I must admit that my CTR didn’t change that much.

But there is something that really can make a big change in the CTR. The trick is called Dynamic Keyword Insertion.

Let’s say you are selling used cars. So one of your keywords is “used cars”. With the dynamic keyword insertion, you will put the search term – in bold – in the headline of your ad. That will give you a huge change in the CTR – promise.

Here is what you should do

Here’s what the syntax looks like:

{keyword:} – will display the search term or not if there is not a match

{keyword: Default} – will display the search term or “Default” if there is a problem displaying the search term. Of course, you can replace “Default” with whatever you like. If people search for something that is much to long, it would be cut in half – so with this syntax you could do a nicer headline.

Remember also these codes:

keyword – No capitalization, all word(s) are in lower case

Keyword – The first word is capitalized

KeyWord – Every word is capitalized

KEYword – Every letter in first word is capitalized

KEYWord – Every letter in the first word AND the first letter of the second

KEYWORD – Every letter is capitalized

Here is how your ad could look like

Headline: {Keyword: Used cars} – Quality
Description line 1:  Buy our super {keyword: Used cars}
Description line 2: 5 free car checks
www.UsedCars.com

Notice that use of the {KeyWord: Default} in the Headline and Description line 1.

So the user who are searching for used cars will see the headline exactly matching his or her search. In the second line he will see the search term in bold. He will think that this ad will get him to the page he is looking for. This is why it works.

So if somebody is searching for “used cars” the ad will look like this:

Used cars – Quality
Buy our super Used cars
5 free car checks
www.UsedCars.com
If somebody is searching for “used blue cars” the ad will look like this (you have different keywords for the same ad)

Used blue cars – Quality
Buy our super Used blue cars
5 Free car checks
www.UsedCars.com

This is the best kept secret of Google AdWords.

Now it’s your turn

Put the dynamic keyword insertion in your Google AdWords ads and give me a comment about your CTR. I can’t wait till I hear from you.

If your CTR is getting higher go to www.facebook.com/seocustomer and give me a like. Thx guys.

Best regards

Google Adwords is a great way to get some traffic to your website and of course reach your goals for the website.

But before you start doing Google Adwords read this first. Good advices before starting doing Google Adwords. You will get a much higher result. But no more talk – ready for business?

1. Always to split-test of your ads. A lot of people forget this. When you split-test your ads you try different words – different headline, different 2nd line etc. Run them simultaneously. You will be surprised how even small changes make big changes in the response. I really love this split-test – you should too.

2. Turn your optimize ad serving of !You can much faster see who the winner of the split-test is. But when you turn it off remember to check your campaign every day or every 2nd day. (I am so curious so I do that anyway – what about you?)

3. One of the most important things in Google Adwords is CTR = click though rate. If you improve your CTR you will get lower click prices and therefor more traffic. So you will have to work with the CTR rate. But remember in the end there is something even more important for you – your conversion rate.

4. Try to have your keyword in the display URL.So if you are selling used cars and your normal website is called www.abc.com. Try to make your display URG www.abc.com/usedcars. Remember that Google Adwords will write the search word in bold.

5. If you have like 200 Adwords you can do 200 ads with one keyword for each. (Well you can – but you have a life outside of Google Adwords too – right?). So the answer is creating ad groups. But remember to make it tight ad groups based on a narrow set of related keywords. Don’t put too many keywords in one ad group.

6. Remember the headline must be a killer. You have to get the attention of your potential customers. The 2nd line much be a great advances for the customer. And the 3rd line much be why they should be buying from you.

7. Every week – or whenever you have enough statistic go though your keywords and take the bad performers off the list. By taking of the bad performers off the list the rest of the keywords will get a higher CTR. But again – remember to check if some of the bad CTR performers do good in conversion.

8. Don’t be too slow declaring a winner. If you are not sure if the best performing ad is the winner go to www.splittester.com. Here you can enter the numbers of clicks and the CTR for your 2 competing ads – and check out if you have a winner.

9. Don’t be too quick declaring a winner. Again check – check – check. Use the www.splittester.com.

10. Remember to use the negative keywords. If you are selling something take away all the people who are looking for FREE stuff. Make free a negative word. If you are selling something new – take away the searches that are looking for second-hand and so on. All this is to make your CTR higher.

And I have my best secret advice for last.

11. You can put in a code so that the headline will show exactly what the people are writing in the search bar. You will get much much higher CTR with this trick. Promised. At least try it out.

Well good luck with your Google Adwords… And remember to have fun and enjoy it.

Yours
Henrik
